Privacy
DeskCity has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. It never sends your files, contacts, clipboard, calendar, reminders, screen or keystrokes anywhere on its own. Everything it knows about your Mac stays on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Aether.
What goes over the network, and when
| When | Where | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| You ask the Oracle something | The AI provider you chose (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Mistral, Groq, xAI, DeepSeek, Cerebras, OpenRouter, or a local Ollama) — or your own Claude Code subscription | Your request and the context the assistant needs for it |
| Weather in the Observatory and the sky | open-meteo.com | The city name from your time zone (not your location) |
| Headlines in the Newsstand | hacker-news.firebaseio.com | Nothing about you — it fetches the top stories |
| Converting currencies in the Toolshed | open.er-api.com | Nothing about you — it fetches exchange rates, at most every few hours, only when you convert money |
| Sentinel checks a package an agent wants to install | registry.npmjs.org, api.npmjs.org, pypi.org, crates.io | The package name |
| Search suggestions (off unless you turn them on) | duckduckgo.com | What you type in the omnibar |
| You activate DeskCity Pro, and about once a day after | api.lemonsqueezy.com (our payment provider) | Your licence key and this Mac's name, to check the subscription is active |
| Checking for updates (once a day, release versions only) | getdeskcity.com | The app's version |
| You open a website (Net Café, Holo Cinema, Food Street, Bazaar, your own places) | That website | Whatever any browser sends |
Scam Shield, Guard, Compass, the clipboard history, Flow file search and window snapshots all run on-device.
Permissions DeskCity asks for
Accessibility (arranging windows), Screen Recording (window previews at the Transit Hub), Microphone and Speech
Recognition (only while you hold the talk key), Calendars and Reminders (The Post and The Library), Contacts (The
Plaza — only the people you pin are remembered), Automation (controlling apps when you ask), and your Desktop,
Documents and Downloads folders (Flow). Each is asked for the first time a feature needs it, and every feature that needs one tells you why.
API keys you enter are kept in your macOS Keychain.
